Race report by Matt Wheeler
Young Matt Wheeler sent us his race report for this past weekend - not even an exploded shock, repeated bumps and changing track conditions could stop him from winning the A Final!

Max Bashing 7.5.06

Today when I got to the track the surface was slightly damp. Our car was already set for the day ahead. Half way through the 1st heat we noticed in certain areas of the track it was drying, so we left the car on the same set up and went out for the 1st qualifying lap. The car responded well, and I felt very confident with it and finished in 3rd position.

As I was happy with the car overall I decided to change the inserts for the second round of qualifying. I used a softer inset because the track had dried and was dusty. I had improved on my qualifying time and was looking forward to improving in the next round.

In the 3rd round I had a problem with my rear shock so I time did not really improve. I rebuilt a set of rear shocks for the finals. My start position was 6th place in the A final.

On the start I had a good traction into the first corner when I got hit in the rear. This happened three times, putting me at the back, so I had a lot of ground to make up! So I began to catch up and overtake the field, and went on to win the A final.

At the end of the race meeting the race director said if I am driving like this at the age of 11, 'what's he going to be like when he's 18, we had better watch out!'

Great job, Matt!
